About the Artist

ARTIST STATEMENT

"As an artist, I strive to create art that evokes strong emotions. I hope to spark creativity by encouraging the viewer to see the world from a different perspective through my paintings. I dive deep into my emotions and in my life experiences to bring meaning to each work. With bold brush strokes and mark making, I allow myself to let go of expectations and external pressures, tapping into my innermost creative impulses. Glazing and layering are a big symbol to me of being as transparent as I can be, and through paint drips I hope to show the viewer that there is beauty in letting go. My art is geared towards self-growth, acceptance, love, and being unapologetically ourselves. Ultimately, I hope to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest, to take risks, cultivating a sense of freedom and fulfillment by embracing their unique essence and expressing themselves authentically."

ARTIST BIO

Bruna was born and raised in Brazil. Growing up with her mother and her grandmother being creatives (her mother is a retired hair stylist and her grandmother crocheted, knitted, and sewed, amongst other things), Bruna was always surrounded by some form of art. She always felt the need to make things with her own hands and has always been naturally creative.

Bruna learned how to draw with graphite and charcoal in high school during her exchange student program in Canada, but soon her program ended, and she had to face other endeavors in life. It wasn’t until after she graduated high school that she had the opportunity to get involved with art once more, when she opened her own business, designing and creating visual identity for events in Brazil, until she made the decision to move to the United States in 2015.

Bruna felt the urge to create art again after becoming a mother in 2019. She felt like art brought her inner peace and back to her true, authentic self. She learned other mediums (including crochet, polymer clay sculpting, hand embroidery) and learned how to paint in watercolor, by drawing and painting commissioned pet portraits. She was very surprised with how quickly she picked up on some techniques and got curious about where her skills could take her. She then enrolled at Millan Art Institute, where she is currently taking their Mastery Program.

Bruna enjoys the wild and freedom, and appreciates the little things in life. She loves spending time with her son in her studio and allowing him to do art with her. She feels drawn to animals and loves painting them, along with women portraits due to the strong and important image women have had in her life. Being authentic and unapologetically herself is her passion. She is excited to turn her life experiences and emotions into meaningful artwork.
